ACONT History

ACONT Medical Therapy Device Branch (AMTDB)

The Magnetic Therapists Association of Australia (MTAA) was absorbed into ACONT in 1996. During 1997 ACONT expanded, forming a new branch called ACONT Magnetic Therapist Branch (AMTB) and in 1999 further expanded to embrace Bioenergetic Medicine, which now is combined as the ACONT Medical Therapy Devices Branch (AMTDB).

The AMTDB is a Non-Schedule 1 branch (non-ingestive qualifications), specifically for members who have a special interest in Bioenergetic Medicine and Magnetic Therapies and other small devices. We encompass members who are Practitioners who use these modalities in their clinics, those who Manufacture and/or sell related products in their businesses, and those who are either studying, or simply interested in these therapies.

The Natural Healthcare Alliance Inc (NHCA)

The NHCA was formed early 2003 to represent the whole Natural Health Care Industry as a single contact point to the media, regulators (TGA, ACCC, etc), and Government departments. This is now a voice for the manufacturing and supply industry, practitioners and consumers, regarding supplements and devices in the Complementary Medicine profession. ACONT is a founding member of the NHCA and regularly attend meetings in Sydney.

ACONT Devices Council (ADC)

ACONT Devices Council (ADC) was officially formed in January 2004 when it was obvious that there was not a credible 'small devices industry body' in Australia to represent complementary medical devices to the TGA and government authorities.

Federation of Natural and Traditional Therapists Ltd (FNTT)

ACONT is a member of the Federation of Natural and Traditional Therapists Ltd (FNTT). The FNTT is the main umbrella organisation for associations of Natural and Traditional Health Therapists in Australia. Recently the FNTT has achieved a GST Registration Number which ACONT Practitioners who qualify can access.

Competency-Based Standards (CBS)

ACONT recognises the importance of Competency-Based Standards (CBS), and has helped in the development of several CBS for the professions of the Natural and Traditional Therapies through membership of the FNTT. The importance of the CBS are to ensure that any Natural Therapist, whatever the education pursued, can competently do what they say they do, whether that be Naturopathy, Homoeopathy, Bioenergetic, Herbal Medicine and Magnetic, or Remedial Therapies, etc. For further information on CBS contact the ACONT office.
